LifeStream enhances 2-1-1 program

Information on resources in the community is now available on-line

YORKTOWN – LifeStream Services has linked their 2-1-1 database to their agency website.  Anyone can now go to the LifeStream website and search for resources in the community to meet any human service need.

2-1-1 is a service available to anyone in the community.  2-1-1 provides a variety of resources to meet any human service need, such as utility assistance, food pantries, and information on area shelters.  It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for anyone.  A caller just dials 2-1-1 from any phone and they will be connected with the call center in their area.

LifeStream has operated the LifeStream United Way 2-1-1 call center for East Central Indiana since April 2006.  In May of 2011, thanks to support from the Delaware and Madison County United Ways, LifeStream was able to transition to a web-based resource database.  This transition allowed better real time updating of information.  In addition, agencies who are listed in the database can now update their information electronically.

Having the 2-1-1 resource database connect to the LifeStream website allows anyone with internet access to find resources on the web.  On the LifeStream website, www.lifestreaminc.org, click on “Find Help”.  You will then be redirected to a page to enter the information you are searching for, including the zip code of the area and the main need.  Resources will be shown in the search area matching the need.  Agency information can be expanded to see hours, eligibility, and other information about the resource.

“We have finally hit the 21st Century in terms of keeping persons in East Central Indiana informed with up to date information about health and human services,”   said Kenneth D. Adkins, President / CEO of LifeStream Services, Inc.  “Gone are the days of publishing human service directories that are out of date the minute they are published.  Gone are the days when only human service professionals were the only ones that had access to these expensive directories.  Now anyone with internet access can determine what services are available at that point in time, knowing the information is accurate.”

Any agency who wishes to be added to the database or to update their agency information can also go to the resource database and send a request to the 2-1-1 staff.  Information on the LifeStream United Way 2-1-1 inclusion/exclusion policy for resources is available on the resource database website.
